CROP PLOTS
Crop plots--the technical heart of Cereals--put the Cereals visitor in direct contact with some of the country's leading researchers, plant breeders and technical managers. This is what brings these small areas of crop alive.
And there's plenty to ponder--a total of 28 companies will be presenting more than 90 plots at the event.
Cereals, oilseeds and pulses, and potato and sugar beet varieties are all well represented. The most up-to-date agronomic, rotational and nutrient thinking is also on show, as is the latest thinking on how Brussels legislation might affect nitrogen and pesticide management.
Other plots will demonstrate climate change effects on pests and disease; and how crops are being bred to respond to the predicted changes in weather and water availability.
HSBC FARMER FORUMS
How will the wider economic problems affect the arable sector over the coming months? That's the topic NFU president Peter Kendall and HSBC Bank senior economist Mark Berrisford-Smith will tackle on the HSBC stand at Cereals.
