A record 4.8 million people were infected by the HIV virus in 2003, says a new report from the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS. UNAIDS released the report July 6 in Bangkok, in anticipation of the XV International AIDS Conference that the Thai capital will host from July 11 to July 16.
