PHOENIX, ARIZ. -- Though melasma may be considered medically benign, the condition can be psychologically malignant, and practitioners need to take action in identifying and treating the condition, Dr. A. Paul Kelly said at a clinical dermatology conference that was sponsored by Medicis.
Melasma is one of the most common reasons for patients to seek dermatologic care, accounting for 5-6 million visits per year in the United States, explained Dr. Kelly, chief of the division of dermatology at Martin Luther King/Charles R. Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles.
