Section: General News - The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry has given its backing to a plan to turn rotten dried longan into bio-fuel instead of it being destroyed or buried, the Bangkok Post reports.

Charantada Kanasutra, permanent secretary for agriculture and cooperatives, said a ministry committee had come to the preliminary conclusion to turn 46,800 tonnes of stockpiled longan into fuel pellets similar to wood pellets.

The option was recommended by the Science and Technology Ministry and welcomed by the committee set up to look for alternatives after the government decided to get rid of the longan.

A final conclusion will rest with the cabinet …
