Except for the cherry-red convertible Smart car, every item in this photofrom the bikini top to the fringed bag to the boardscosts $500 or less. We've actually seen a lot of chic deals like these lately, so many that VOGUE' s editors decided they deserved their own pages in the magazine. The time is just right for a monthly feature that will focus on fashion's new more-fun-less-funds mood. Happily, the first Steal of the Month coincides with that time of year when everyone is planning trips seasideand plotting what to wear when they get there.

Nowadays, pursuits like surfing and paddleboarding are more popular than lounging, and require pretty and functional things.
