Males in foreign language and English departments are promoted to full professor much quicker than women, according to a report by the Modern Language Association.

The report, "Standing Still," found that the average time to promotion for female associate professors is 8.2 years, compared with 6.6 years for men. The study also found that women raising kids do not necessarily take longer to get a promotion than childless women.
