Tenure denial is a fair-pay issue, according to a ruling by a U.S. District Court in Mississippi.

Senior District Judge Tom Lee ruled that a lawsuit regarding tenure denial at Jackson State University MS came under the scope of the 2009 Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act because the tenure decision denied her a salary increase and was therefore "a compensation decision." The Ledbetter Act allows employees to file suit within 180 days of any discriminatory paycheck.
