At least 18 women-led colleges and universities in the U.S. have recently received a total of more than $90 million in anonymous donations.

Since women lead only about 23% of U.S. colleges, the odds of them being randomly selected are about 1 in 50 billion.

The donations, ranging from $1 million to $10 million, are usually directed to scholarships for women and minorities, with a smaller sum to the school's general fund. All recipients have been public colleges and universities, except Kalamazoo College MI.

Theories about the donor's identity range from Oprah Winfrey to Bernie Madoff to the estate of Leona Helmsley. All deny being the "feminist fairy godmother."
