Soprano Desiree Alejandro won first place in the voice division of the 25th Annual Young Texas Artists Music Competition, capturing the Entergy grand prize along with an invitation to perform with the Montgomery County Choral Society. Alejandro, 26, is a native of Fritch, Texas. She completed a master's degree in vocal performance at the University of Houston's Moores School of Music in May, and is participating in the James Collier Apprentice Artist Program with the Des Moine Metro Opera this summer.
