Portsoy seafood processor Gourmet's Choice has been the centre of attention many times over the years, winning accolades galore for its parent, A.J. Sutherland, but boss Maurice Sutherland still cringes over being in the limelight.

Surprisingly for a man who travels the world championing his company's smoked salmon and other products, Mr Sutherland, 46, admits to being less than comfortable under the glare of the spotlight.

It is a fear he has had to conquer, however, in his quest to further grow exports and find new markets for the Gourmet's Choice range.

He said: 'I am still a bag of nerves about talking to people at the trade shows I attend on behalf of the firm.'

Mr Sutherland is now leading the business his great great-grandfather founded in 1908.

He has not been in the role of managing director long but does not recall just when he took up the position officially. He said: 'It was sometime last year but I don't quite remember …
