The EU's biggest business lobby group, BusinessEurope, wants the anti-discrimination directive "withdrawn" and "ideas about introducing legislation on EU collective redress to be dropped". In a letter addressed to Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Vladimir Tosovsky on the eve of the Competitiveness Council, scheduled for 28 and 29 May, the organisation argues that since the crisis does not allow for a "business as usual" attitude to regulatory policy, "new legislative proposals that risk creating an extra burden on companies should be avoided". Although the organisation remains "committed to the fight against discrimination," it fears that the new anti-discrimination regulation would "raise costs, enhance red tape and increase legal uncertainty for companies".
