I play too much karaoke piano. Karaoke piano is exactly like it sounds: it is playing versus practicing, although sometimes, I call what I am doing practicing, which is the problem. Too often in my practice hours, I simply play along at some piece of music, depending upon my sight-reading skills and the musical tape playing in my head to carry me through, without ever taking the music apart, breaking it down and really learning it. I have done this all the way to performances--this karaoke piano--with often decent results.
