For celebrities, fragrances are like bodyguards: No star has reached the pinnacle of fame without one. But do these scents accurately capture the essence of their boldface namesakes? We asked Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys New York and author of Eccentric Glamour (Simon & Schuster), to do a blind sniff test and guess the celebrity behind each spritz. Once we revealed their true identities, he gave his take on what their perfumes should really smell like.

WHAT'S IN IT: Mango, rose, sandalwood. THE BLIND TEST: "This one's pretty and flowery. [ coughs ] I'm getting a definite Britney vibration here. [ coughs ] There's a recklessness about it, and it's making me cough, which screams Britney." WHAT IT SHOULD SMELL LIKE: "Christina's super-trampy look was hard for me. This should smell like her newer incarnation: vintage Hollywoodlike Jean Harlow's negligee."
