When I rent a place, my goal is to make it look as neutral as possibleI hate feeling like I'm in someone else's house. Stripping things away once you arrive is as important as what you bring. If there's art you're not into or an ugly bedspread, put it out of sight in a closet. There's no reason to live with something that bothers you.
Do your homework. Before you go, talk to your landlord about the details that don't usually get mentioned in a listing. Sort out Internet access and cable so you know whether to pack your own wireless modem or movies. You should also ask about things like a grill and tennis racquets. And it's always a good idea to research what stores are nearbyit'll help you decide what to bring. If you're going someplace remote, you may even want to order groceries or a case of wine and have them shipped in advance of your stay.
