Reiko Clement's arrangement of this work for flute and guitar offers flutists a new instrumental tango option. Cinco piezas captures the style of the original work, but the listener might be surprised by Clement's divergence from Piazzolla's solo guitar composition.
Of the five movements in varying slow and fast characters, three are notably different from the original work. In the first movement, "Campero," the flute melody is only loosely related to the original composition and gives the movement a different character than the solo guitar work. While the original work gives the listener only a hint of the tango, the added material in this arrangement gives the movement an obvious tango character. However, performers might be challenged to infuse the same level of freedom customarily taken by guitarists.
