SIMON KNEEN IS THINKING about wires. Or as he puts it, "Wire management--working out where men are going to put their cell phone or their iPod or their BlackBerry when they wear our clothes." Such considerations didn't concern Banana Republic's earliest creative directors, since a) no such devices existed, and b) they were more concerned with where to park the safari jeeps in the stores or how many reptiles they could silk-screen onto T-shirts. Wires, much less the management thereof, weren't even on the agenda.
