With the rapid increase in Chapter 11 filings, creditors are likely to receive invitations to organizational meetings for creditors' committees. The question arises again and again--should a busy credit professional take the time to participate in the committee when, after all, their company is already out a great deal of money and service on a committee could be an exercise in throwing good money after bad? Will membership in a creditors' committee benefit your company? Should one spend the time, especially in light of the slight chance the case will result in reorganization?
