- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao urged the country's college students to find grassroots jobs in less developed regions as the economic downturn increases pressures in employment market. Visiting Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province, from Friday to Sunday, Wen said employment was one of the government's priorities for the sake of the country's economy and for the future of individuals.
- China's leading wheat producer Henan Province managed to accomplish its goal of reaping 30 billion kilograms of wheat output this year despite severe drought in the spring.
PEOPLE'S DAILY (OVERSEAS EDITION):
- China ranked first in the world in tea production, contributing to 1/3 of the world's total or 1.24 million tons in 2008. Its tea export in 2008 hit 297,000 tons valued at US$682 million.
