TAIPEI, June 8 Asia Pulse - Computex Taipei 2009 attracted more visitors and generated more new business than last year's show despite adverse market conditions and the global swine flu outbreak, a sign that the global economy may be on the rebound, show organizers said Saturday.
"This year's Computex Taipei was in the global limelight with international coverage from the British Broadcasting Corporation, the New York Times, Bloomberg and NHK. It also served as an important benchmark of global economic recovery, " said Walter Yeh, executive vice president of the semi-official trade promotion body Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
"It demonstrated that new business opportunities lie in new innovative products, " added Yeh, speaking at the show's final-day press conference to close the world's leading information communication technology (ICT) show.
According to Yeh, this year's Computex Taipei, which hosted 1,712 exhibitors occupying 4,498 booths, received 32,178 international buyers from 214 countries and territories, an increase of 1 per cent compared to the previous year and generated US$20 billion in business.
TAITRA arranged more than 2,000 one-on-one procurement meetings attended by 256 overseas companies from 42 countries, which generated US$100 million in on-site business on their own and created US$700 million in follow-up business.
