TAIPEI, June 8 Asia Pulse - Taiwan and Hong Kong have agreed to set up quasi-official organizations that will represent them in bilateral talks on economic and cultural issues and possibly lead to meetings between top officials from their two governments.
Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Vice Chairman Fu Dong-cheng and visiting Hong Kong Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Stephen Lam Sui-lung jointly made the announcement at a press conference held following their talks in Taipei Friday.
During the talks, Fu said the two parties had agreed that Taiwan would act to establish a Taiwan-Hong Kong economic and cultural cooperation promotion committee, while Hong Kong will open a Hong Kong-Taiwan trade cooperation commission under its Trade Development Council.
The planned organizations will focus on promoting trade, investment, travel and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Hong Kong, he said.
Fu further noted that high-ranking officials from Taiwan and Hong Kong will also participate in activities organized by the two new organizations to strengthen normal interactions ...
