BA RIA-VUNG TAU, June 8 Asia Pulse - Container shipping firm APL on June 3 launched a weekly direct container shipping service between Vietnam and the US, which is the destination for about 20 per cent of all outgoing freight heading across the Pacific from Vietnam.
The new service, called PS1, will offer fast transit times from Vietnam to the US west coast, taking just 15 days to reach Seattle and 16 days to Los Angeles, according to APL.
At a time when trade is contracting across the world, Vietnam is among a few select countries that expects to record export growth in 2009, said APL senior vice president for pan-American trade Bob Sappio. He was speaking at the launch of the new Sai Gon Port-PSA deepwater container terminal on the Cai Mep River.
