Section: General News - At least 220,000 workers were employed in different infrastructure projects undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) from January to May as part of the government's pump-priming program to help soften the impact of the global financial downturn.

DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. said they expect the job generation initiative to further increase as a result of the pump-priming activities aimed at expediting the completion of pending projects within December 2009.
