SAN FRANCISCO -- Pelviscopies to evaluate 339 women with symptoms of endometriosis showed endometrial lesions plus at least one other disorder in 88%, Dr. Leonard Weather Jr. said at the annual meeting of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

The results support the need for laparoscopic evaluation of suspected endometriosis rather than empirical therapy. Without a definitive surgical diagnosis, significant additional pathologic disorders might be missed, which could affect the patient's reproductive status and quality of life, said Dr. Weather of New Orleans.
