CHICAGO -- The incontinence ring pessary can be a safe, noninvasive option for treating stress incontinence if it fits correctly, Dr. Magali Robert said at the annual meeting of the American Urogynecologic Society.
The ring is made of silicone and features a knob that, when placed under the urethra, has the potential to alleviate stress urinary incontinence. Traditional ring pessaries have been used solely for pelvic prolapse.
Of a prospective cohort of 38 women presenting with stress urinary incontinence and fitted with an incontinence ring pessary, 9 (24%) were completely dry after 1 year, and 6 (16%) continued using the pessary after completion of the study, said Dr. Robert of the University of Calgary (Alta.).
