[Report: "Summit of the Americas Will Be Key for Barack Obama's Relations with Latin America"]
The G-20 Summit, which brought the leaders of the eight most highly industrialized nations and 11 emerging economies together in London last week (the 20th member is the European Union), was described as a "trial by fire" for the President of the United States, Barack Obama. He brought to the event a new style of diplomacy that sought to put as much distance as possible between his style and the belligerent tone of his predecessor, George W. Bush.
Obama's first European tour can be considered a success for its change in the "with us or against us" discourse and for obtaining a $1.1 billion injection of resources to attempt to revitalize the global economy, however an even more difficult test could be around the corner for the US President, in the fifth Summit of the Americas. …
