Section: General News - Thai financial institutions have sufficient capital to cover their business needs for at least the next one or two years, according to Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij, the Bangkok Post reports.

He said the Bank of Thailand was monitoring asset quality levels in the banking system closely, and that overall, Thai banks remained stable and adequately capitalised.

The International Monetary Fund on Wednesday told a meeting of Asean+3 finance officials and central bankers that bank capital across the region should be increased to cope with rising bad loans as a result of the global crisis.
