For many companies, managing a customer portfolio used to involve a wait-and-see approach, with credit managers reacting to slow payments and other negative account activities only as they would occur. In fact, many of these managers simply would check customer credit ratings at the beginning of a business relationship and rely on aging reports alone to determine who was currently a slow payer.
