This new collection of works for organ and solo instruments was commissioned for the 2008 Biennial National Convention of the American Guild of Organists held in the Twin Cities. The six works in this collection utilize the organ in traditional and non-traditional pairings of instruments. Cary John Franklin's Morning Light for cello and organ is an effective setting in which a simple melody is developed with a supportive organ accompaniment. Monte Mason's The Dances of Our Lady is a two-movement work for soprano saxophone and organ that is highly syncopated and adds a new twist to two plainsong chant melodies in honor of the Virgin Mary. HaChZaRaH: The Arousal of the Return by Janika Vandervelde is a unique work for violin and organ; the organ accompaniment is based primarily on open fifths in its accompaniment of a solo line from the violin that begins quietly with sustained notes before moving into a faster, syncopated section and then closing in the same manner in which it started.
