FIRECREWS were scrambled to Newcastle Airport after an emergency alert was declared today.
Six fire engines rushed to the scene after a Flybe flight to Gatwick reported problems shortly after taking off.
But minutes before they arrived on the scene, the plane made a successful emergency landing back at Newcastle.
The 6.52am service to London was declared a full emergency at 7.06am, meaning everybody at the airport was put on standby and the emergency services called.
The plane returned to Newcastle and landed at 7.15am.
