CANBERRA, April 1 Asia Pulse - A High Court decision on the validity of the Australian government's bonus payments to millions of taxpayers is expected on Friday.
The full bench of the court has finished hearing submissions from a legal academic, who has challenged the stimulus package payments, and the commonwealth which insists government legislation is amply supported by constitutional powers.
The payments - up to A$900 (US$622) for each eligible taxpayer - are due to be made by the tax office next week.
Chief Justice Robert French says the court expects to be in a position on Friday to give answers to questions raised during the case.
