TAIPEI, April 1 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's trade surplus with China in January hit the lowest single-month level in eight years as exports to China continued to be throttled by declining demand, according to a report released Monday by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Total trade with China amounted to US$4.1 billion in January, down 56.8 per cent from the same month last year, according to the ministry's Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT).
Exports plunged by 59 per cent year-on-year to US$2.76 billion -- the fifth consecutive month in which a year-on-year decline was recorded. Meanwhile, imports from China declined from the same period a year earlier for the fourth consecutive month, plummeting 51.5 per cent to US$1.34 billion.
