Jade Goody's high profile battle against cervical cancer has been linked to a surge of Essex women booking smear tests, leaving GPs inundated with requests.
The so-called Goody effect has seen hundreds of women checking into surgeries and, since the reality TV star died on Sunday at her home in Upshire, doctors expect the trend to continue.
The latest figures from Mid Essex NHS show a dramatic increase in women seeking smear tests, with 835 women attending screenings last week, compared to 483 in the same period last year.
