We have been working very hard over the last few months to ensure a successful start to the new authority, making sure that all the essential services from bin collection to social services continue as normal from day one.

From April 1 the council will be a brand new organisation, not just the seven old councils joined together.

Many of the council's services are being transformed by the reorganisation and as a result the new authority will be an innovative and forward looking council that is fit for the 21st century.

We have also unified the best practice from all seven councils, meaning that everyone in Northumberland can now benefit from the numerous examples of excellence developed by the county, district and borough councils over the years.

In the next few months, we will introduce new and innovative ways of working, using modern technology and an ethos of looking outwards to move away from traditional styles of service delivery and towards a progressive, efficient and customer focussed style.
