"Two Prescriptions for America's Ills" (November 2008) should have compared universal health care to Medicare. Everyone avoids the fact that universal health care for seniors is broken: insultingly low payments to physicians, physicians being allowed to opt out by refusing and dropping patients age 65 and older. And you can't blame them, considering what they're paid.
This age discrimination also prevents seniors from relocating in retirement. If you can't find a doctor, you'd better not move.
If the government can't get Medicare right, how can the candidates and everyone else think they can get universal health care right?
