Sixty-seven-year-old Marvin Bowdoin said he and his wife arrived at their residence just in time to watch the last 30 minutes of American Idol. The two had been working late, closing the family's general merchandise store, Bowdoin's Grocery.
As the show ended, Bowdoin left his wife in the den and walked down the hall to his office intending to sort that day's store receipts.
His wife "hadn't made supper but she stayed in that room for some reason," Bowdoin said during an interview in his store.
A Juliette, Georgia, journalist reported in the local paper, the Telegraph, that Marvin Bowdoin was simply sitting at his desk at home relaxing when the "cat bandit" kicked in his kitchen door on January 27.
"When I sat down, I heard that door crash open for some reason and I knew someone was in the house."
Bowdoin told reporters that within seconds the shotgun-carrying intruder had gone from the kitchen to the dining room and was nearly into the foyer.
