from BUSINESS LINE, March 10, 2009 BL Research Bureau With the equity markets in the doldrums, has the action shifted to the corporate bond markets? Data on volumes in the bond market from SEBI seems to suggest so.

From a little over 3,000 trades every month till August, volumes in corporate bonds averaged over 70,000 trades in the October-December period. The trend has continued in 2009 too with 60,375 trades in January and 42,727 trades in February. However, in value terms there was a spike only from December.

The value of trades has shot up from an average of Rs 7,000 crore earlier to over Rs 22,000 crore in the last three months. More active …
