KIEN GIANG, March 2 Asia Pulse - Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet visited the southern province of Kien Giang on February 26 and 27, where he urged the locality to maximise its aquaculture potential.
Boasting 200km of coastline, Kien Giang, as well as developing a master plan to govern its fisheries industry, should boost its aquaculture breeding programmes along industrial lines as the province boasts 79,000ha of aquatic products, the State President said.
He also requested that the province propose suitable support policies to the State in order to better assist its farmers, particularly in the purchase of raw materials.
In order to develop its industries and services, the province should improve its investment environment and expand its relations with other local cities and provinces, as well as foreign countries, President Triet said.
He also urged the province to increase investment in key projects, such as a thermo-power plant in Kien Luong district, a deep water port in Kien Hai district and, particularly the development of Phu Quoc island.
In terms of judicial reform, the President asked Kien Giang province to focus its attention on educating local residents and providing vocational training for judicial officials.
