BUSINESS TIMES:

- For all the pervasive doom and gloom, Asia is not in crisis and Singapore is not in dire straits, says Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, invoking a 'sense of balance' about the state of the economy.

- Attempts by unhappy shareholders to oust directors of troubled companies are not uncommon, but the recent move at NEL Group has raised eyebrows as questions hang over the perceived independence, or rather the lack of it, among the new directors appointed.

- Offshore services provider Swiber slid into the red in the final quarter of 2008, due largely to late delivery of vessels which delayed the completion of its projects.

- United Engineers saw full-year profit plunge to $6 million from $172.9 million in FY07 - although revenue rose 16 per cent to $624.6 million mainly due to the progressive recognition of revenue from the sale of residential ...
