POLICE and road safety campaigners have welcomed a jail sentence given to a man who drove dangerously in Moray, despite being banned for life.

Paul Woodin, 37, of 19 Clyde Crescent, Larbert, Stirlingshire, admitted driving at excessive speeds on the wrong side of the unclassified Pitgaveney-Elgin road on Friday night. He also admitted driving while banned and without insurance.

Woodin was jailed for eight months after he appeared from custody at Elgin Sheriff Court on Monday. He has been convicted of driving while disqualified at least 12 times.
