A threatened work stoppage that would have idled container and other traffic at British Columbia ports ended last week with a tentative agreement between negotiators for 450 unionized dock forepersons and the British Columbia Maritime Employers' Association.
Details of the agreement between the BCMEA and International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 514 will not be released until union members have seen it and ratify it. Greg Vurdela, vice president for the BCMEA, said the deal was reached on Feb. 16 after more than four months of talks under federal mediation.
