Replacing the large lecture-based intro physics class at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a smaller, hands-on interactive class has led to an increase in attendance and a 50% decrease in the failure rate.

MIT is not alone in making such changes. Other universities, including Harvard, the University of Maryland and the University of Colorado, have physicists leading teaching methods drawn from research that show students learn fundamental concepts better though interactive, collaborative, student-centered learning.
