Section: General News - The U.S. Defense Department said on Thursday (February 19, 2009) that it is still considering to keep a military base in Kyrgyzstan despite the central Asian country's parliament has voted to close it.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said that the Pentagon continues to consider what it can offer to the Kyrgyzstan government to keep the U.S. air base, Manas, there.

"But we're not prepared to stay at any price and we continue to look at other options that are available to us," Whitman said.
