A new high-level nursing certification is blurring the lines between doctors and nurses, much to the chagrin of some physicians.

About 80 nursing schools offer "doctor of nursing" degrees and at the end of 2008, about 40 nurses from the programs sat for the certification exam. The same board that licenses new physicians administers the test. The nursing test is also the same as the final section of a three-part exam that medical school students must pass to become doctors.
