Objectors to the proposed Aberdeen bypass were accused yesterday of Nimbyism -- simply trying to protect their own backyard.

Transport Scotland's QC, Ailsa Wilson, claimed many opponents of the plans had 'blatantly disregarded' the scope of the public local inquiry, which forbade debate over the need for the scheme.

Ms Wilson also dismissed arguments that the building of the proposed Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route would breach policy and insisted the road would benefit people throughout the north and north-east.
