AMD recently announced the widespread availability of its 45nm quad-core AMD Opteron processor, which is said to deliver up to 35 percent more performance with up to a 35 percent decrease in power consumption at idle. As a result of the release, global OEMs have begun offering systems based on the new processor, code-named Shanghai, including HP in its xw9400 workstation.
