SUPERMARKET bosses are going back to the drawing board with their plans for a city centre store.

Councillors had been due to consider an application to revamp the Newcastle General Hospital site.

But a report, which was due to go before Newcastle City Council's development control committee next Friday, was deferred after an 11th hour decision.

It is believed the application by Tesco to build a superstore on the Westgate Road site was due to be turned down because of a list of serious concerns about the size and nature of the proposals.
