CHICAGO -- Older, less expensive antibiotics are about as good as the newer oral quinolones for treating community acquired pneumonia in otherwise healthy adults who are treated as outpatients.
In a metaanalysis of 12 controlled trials of pneumonia treatment that were conducted during the 1990s and involved 4,443 patients, the number needed to treat to see a quinolone advantage was 33, Dr. Alan R.
