The European Union (EU) has lifted the ban on beef from Gantsi District with effect from January 20, 2009. The district was hit by an FMD [Foot and Mouth Disease] outbreak in October 2007 after cases were reported in the Habu extension area or Zone 2C.

The EU spokesperson in Gaborone, Bester Gabotlale said last week that they responded positively to the Botswana government's request made on January 5, 2009 to lift the ban on beef from Gantsi. He stated that the EU's response, coming two weeks from the time the request was …
