HARARE

Zimbabwe's new school term begins today but teachers unions said yesterday that their members would not report for duty because the government has refused to pay salaries in foreign currency.

The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) and the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) - the two representative bodies for teachers in the country - have been pressing the government to pay their members in hard cash to cushion them against runaway inflation.
