Section: General News - The government will use National Elderly Day this year to launch the payment of a special allowance to senior citizens not registered with the Social Security Fund. Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat yesterday said the Interior Ministry would begin taking the names of those not registered from Feb 26 to March 30, and hopefully begin payment on April 13, National Elderly Day, the Bangkok Post reports.

A committee appointed by the National Elderly Commission chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will set the criteria for deciding who should receive the special 500 baht a month subsistence allowance for six months. Those …
